Medical Records Specialist

The Medical Records Specialist supports accurate and confidential patient record management in a home health setting. This role works closely with internal teams to maintain EMR/EHR records, process orders, support documentation workflows, and ensure HIPAA compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Organize, sort, process, and maintain patient files using EMR systems and document tracking tools.
  • Enter and update patient information in EHR systems with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Track missing, invalid, and late documentation and report issues to leadership.
  • Coordinate with Pre-bill, Revenue Cycle, field clinicians, program leadership, and Growth teams to support timely order signatures.
  • Provide clerical support such as faxing, filing, copying, and sorting orders and Plans of Care.
  • Monitor policy changes and manage order routing, including Do-Not Send and Add-On orders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations.
  • Help orient new team members as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Understanding of Home Care EMR systems preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business, technical, and regulatory information.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and percentages.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with leaders, team members, investors, and external parties.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to stand, walk, perform manual dexterity tasks, and lift up to 25 pounds.
