The Health Information Management Outpatient Coding Lead Specialist supports reimbursement and data collection for Akron Children's Hospital ambulatory surgery and observation services. The role assigns ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for outpatient diagnosis and procedures, reviews medical record abstract data for accuracy in Epic, and helps ensure coding consistency across the team.
This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with remote status.
Requirements & Qualifications
Technical expertise
- Experience in health information management is required.
- Experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT coding, and classification systems is required.
- At least 2 years of coding experience is required; 3 years is preferred.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
- Experience in healthcare is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, and Word is required.
- Experience with 3M software is preferred.
Education and certification
- Associate degree in health information or a related field is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- AHIMA or AAPC certification is required.
- Supervisory experience is not required.
