Fully remote opportunity supporting hospital-wide coding accuracy, compliance, reimbursement, and education across the Orlando Health system.
The role serves as a multifacility coding liaison, performing chart reviews, resolving problem accounts, assisting with coding education, and collaborating with revenue management, clinical documentation, and quality teams.
Key responsibilities
- Review diagnoses, procedures, co-morbidities, complications, and other abstracted elements for accuracy.
- Assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 codes using an electronic encoder.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on coding guidelines and respond to coding-related inquiries.
- Provide feedback, education, and presentations to support compliant coding practices.
- Collaborate with coders, physicians, management, and revenue cycle teams.
- Identify trends, prepare recommendations, and support KPI reporting, process improvement, and education.
- Assist with DNFB account reviews and timely code completion.
- Support system testing, reporting, trending, and troubleshooting of coding applications.
- Precept new coders and act as a team leader resource.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, or completion of a coding certificate program.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
- Thorough understanding of official coding guidelines per AMA, AHA, and CMS.
Certification
Must hold one of the following:
- CCS
- RHIA
- RHIT
- CPC
- COC
Experience
- 7 years of relevant hospital inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience required.
- 1 year of teaching hospital coding experience preferred.
- For Radiation Oncology Liaison roles, 3 years of Radiation Oncology coding experience may substitute for teaching hospital experience.
Additional qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, CPT, NCCI, and payer edit resolution.
- Liaison coding skills test score of 90% or better.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to maintain certification and achieve 95% or above accuracy.
