Responsible for maintaining prisoner health records in accordance with federal and state statutes, departmental policies, and procedures.
Key duties include:
- Assisting with documenting diagnosis codes on prisoner records
- Maintaining health care databases
- Performing continuous quality improvement activities and reports
- Coordinating distribution of health record information
- Processing release of information requests
- Preparing hard copy health records for transfer and receiving incoming records
- Training new health care employees on the electronic medical record system
- Coordinating and tracking specialty health care appointments
This position works within the secure perimeter of correctional facilities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Associate's degree in health information or medical record technology
- Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Medical Record Examiner 8: no specific type or amount of experience required
- Medical Record Examiner 9: one year of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 8
- Medical Record Examiner E10: two years of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner, including one year equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 9
- Must meet state employment eligibility requirements, including felony-related hiring restrictions for the Department of Corrections
