The Health Information Management Coder, Inpatient Level 2 provides timely and accurate clinical and administrative data to support optimal reimbursement for inpatient, rehab, and/or skilled nursing coding needs.
The role focuses on accurate inpatient coding, DRG/APR-DRG assignment, clinical documentation review, and support of the facility's reimbursement and quality goals. Occasional onsite work is required.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credential required.
- Eligible bachelor's or associate degree graduates will be considered with the expectation that they pass the national exam.
- Acute care inpatient coding experience preferred.
- Experience with inpatient diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS preferred.
- Clinical documentation knowledge for inpatient coding strongly preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work under stress, with interruptions, deadlines, and limited constraints.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment.
- Experience with EMR, email/Outlook, internet, 3M encoder, Lawson, Word, and Excel preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills.
- Ability to identify problems and apply sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams.
- Ability to sit for long periods and work at a computer screen.
- Flexibility to adjust assignments as priorities change.
