The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Health Information Management is hiring a full-time HIM Technician 1 to support patient electronic health records in Miami, FL.
This role is responsible for ensuring that medical information such as past medical history, labs, cardiology, imaging, and hospital records are available and organized for providers and patients. The technician reconciles, preps, scans, and indexes medical records in accordance with departmental, medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include maintaining workflow, ensuring timely record availability, retrieving discharge and visit documentation, preparing records for scanning, scanning documents into the electronic health system, indexing documents to the correct patient and encounter, and supporting coverage for at least one satellite facility.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 6 months of relevant experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to speak, read, write, and follow written and oral instructions
- Strong typing, spelling, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Compliance with HIPAA requirements and patient confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- RHIA or RHIT certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology
