The role focuses on accurately coding inpatient records for the classification of diseases, injuries, procedures, and operations using the ICD-10-CM/PCS coding system. The position also ensures compliance with coding rules and regulations, works collaboratively to meet departmental and AR goals, and abstracts prescribed data elements from medical records.
Estimated pay is $29.41 - $38.23 per hour depending on experience. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 is offered.
High school diploma, certificate, GED, training, or equivalent experience.
Required credentials include AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). For Boca Raton, acceptable credentials include CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, RHIT, or RHIA.
Additional qualifications:
- Required coding certificate
- If not CCS or RHIT certified upon hire, certification must be obtained within 2 years, except for BRRH employees
- Knowledge of encoder systems, IPPS, DRG/MS-DRGs, and National and Local Coverage Determinations (NCD/LCD)
- Competency in Word and Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, management staff, and physicians
- Minimum required experience: 3 years
