Health Information Management Specialist

This role supports health information management activities tied to claims processing, medical records handling, documentation retrieval, scanning, and administrative office operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining medical records and supporting documentation for clean claim submission
  • Using EMR access, technology tools, and traditional records requests to secure missing information
  • Reviewing documents and placing them correctly in paper or electronic records
  • Validating claims and supporting documentation before scanning and processing
  • Performing administrative tasks such as scanning, filing, mail handling, faxing, copying, and correspondence
  • Maintaining HIPAA compliance for patient medical records and protected health information
  • Supporting medical billing and collections tasks as needed
  • Assisting patients, vendors, and visitors in a professional manner when required
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve patient care and business operations
Requirements & Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of HIM-related experience preferred
  • Prior medical records experience, including EMR navigation
  • General billing knowledge and familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, orthopedic diagnoses, and medical record formats
  • Understanding of EMR systems and where clinical data is located
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web browsers, and internet search tools
  • Ability to learn new software and systems quickly
  • Proficiency with office machinery, telecommunications equipment, and web-based tools
  • Ability to perform routine or basic maintenance on scanning equipment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and professional
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality
