This role supports health information management activities tied to claims processing, medical records handling, documentation retrieval, scanning, and administrative office operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Obtaining medical records and supporting documentation for clean claim submission
- Using EMR access, technology tools, and traditional records requests to secure missing information
- Reviewing documents and placing them correctly in paper or electronic records
- Validating claims and supporting documentation before scanning and processing
- Performing administrative tasks such as scanning, filing, mail handling, faxing, copying, and correspondence
- Maintaining HIPAA compliance for patient medical records and protected health information
- Supporting medical billing and collections tasks as needed
- Assisting patients, vendors, and visitors in a professional manner when required
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve patient care and business operations
Requirements & Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of HIM-related experience preferred
- Prior medical records experience, including EMR navigation
- General billing knowledge and familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, orthopedic diagnoses, and medical record formats
- Understanding of EMR systems and where clinical data is located
- Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web browsers, and internet search tools
- Ability to learn new software and systems quickly
- Proficiency with office machinery, telecommunications equipment, and web-based tools
- Ability to perform routine or basic maintenance on scanning equipment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and professional
- Consistent attendance and punctuality
