Responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient accounts in accordance with coding guidelines.
- Assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for inpatient hospital accounts.
- Coordinate with clinical documentation and quality teams to ensure validation of MSDRG, patient safety indicators, and hospital acquired conditions are supported by physician documentation.
- Monitor assigned work queues to ensure records are charged in a timely manner.
- Generate coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed.
- Stay current on coding conventions and coding updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Two years of inpatient coding experience.
- CCS, RHIA, and/or RHIT preferred.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - AHIMA
- Or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) - AAPC
- Or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - AAPC
- Or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA
- Or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA
