HIM Specialist I

Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health

Supports day-to-day Health Information Management (HIM) operations across multiple hospitals and functional areas, including data integrity, document imaging, birth registry, deficiencies, and release of information.

Responsible for processing and routing documents and images, indexing and scanning records with quality checks, validating patient and encounter data, making approved demographic and chart updates, and handling straightforward requests while protecting PHI in accordance with HIPAA, HITECH, and organizational policy.

Works closely with physicians, patients, guests, and healthcare team members to ensure records are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education and training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Medical terminology preferred or within 1 year of hire

Experience

  • One year of experience in Health Information Management, Revenue Management, Revenue Cycle, or a healthcare field preferred
  • Completion of a Health Information Management, Healthcare Informatics, Health Information Technology, or Health Service Administration degree program may substitute for one year of experience

Additional qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and data entry accuracy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and organizational communication skills
