The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician Lead supports the HIM department by maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of patient health records. This role contributes to coding support, reimbursement, physician chart completion, regulatory compliance, chart deficiency management, unbilled management, mandated registry reporting, and EHR maintenance.
The position is onsite at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska, and works Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Key responsibilities include managing chart deficiency workflows, assisting providers with incomplete records, processing unbilled accounts, maintaining health records in the EHR, overseeing delinquent record suspension processes, tracking delinquency statistics, performing registry reporting and EMPI reconciliation, and supporting HIM leadership with audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare clerical support required
- Experience with document scanning, indexing, or electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of medical record workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of chart deficiency processes, provider suspension workflows, and unbilled management procedures
- Proficiency in EHR systems, document management, and health information technology platforms
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with providers, HIM leadership, and interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to analyze and interpret HIM reports, including deficiency tracking and unbilled account monitoring
- Attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism
Licensure and Certification
- RHIT preferred
