Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient and related hospital encounters, including emergency department, same-day surgery, outpatient clinic, observation, inpatient OB/newborn, and specialty clinic services. Review documentation for accuracy, resolve coding issues, and ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and organizational policies.
This role uses ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and supports hospital billing requirements. The position is remote and requires independent decision-making while maintaining coding quality, productivity, and compliance standards.
- One year of outpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Familiarity with CMS hospital billing requirements.
- Knowledge of APCs, OPPS, NCCI guidelines, Local and National Coverage Decisions, and medical necessity/compliance guidelines.
- Ability to maintain 95% accuracy on quality reviews and productivity standards.
- Ability to submit physician queries when documentation clarification is needed.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.
- Maintain coding education hours and renew annual coding credentials as applicable.
- Complete compliance courses within required timeframes.
