This position is responsible for chart analysis within the Health Information Management (HIM) department, including both quantitative and qualitative review of medical records for accuracy and completeness.
The role involves assigning provider deficiencies, ensuring timely completion, and supporting adherence to regulatory requirements. It also includes assisting providers with record completion, validating deficiencies, collecting data for regulatory reporting and hospital operations, and gathering information from electronic and paper documentation sources.
This position provides office support to other HIM department staff.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency required; college coursework or an HIM degree preferred
- Previous experience in a HIM department preferred; hospital experience preferred
- Previous experience with an electronic medical record system; Meditech preferred
- Strong analytical skills to review and assess documentation for deficiencies in medical records
- Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new software applications
- Ability to troubleshoot and understand technical information
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security rules and PHI confidentiality requirements
- Ability to operate scanning hardware, fax machine, photocopier, microfiche, telephone, and other basic office equipment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, email, and internet
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, teamwork, and customer service
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Detail-oriented with strong multitasking skills in a fast-paced, changing healthcare environment
- Flexibility to handle daily assignments based on department needs
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
