Under the direction of the Director of Nursing or Medical Records Director (if applicable) and in consultation with the Medical Records Consultant, the Medical Records Clerk maintains medical records in accordance with state and federal regulations, professional standards of practice, and facility policies and procedures. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of the medical patient record from admission to discharge.
Principal responsibilities
- Assemble, protect, and collect records
- Monitor physician visits and documentation
- Thin paper records
- Track incomplete records
- Produce records on request according to corporate guidelines
- Manage orders
- Perform Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) checks for completeness and accuracy
- Perform miscellaneous work assignments as required
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Associate degree in Medical Record Technology preferred
- Completion of classes in medical terminology and knowledge of HIPAA
- One to two years of previous experience in medical records preferred
- Previous typing and office experience preferred
