The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate health records, organizing and managing an approved records system, and ensuring patient information is documented, secure, and readily accessible to authorized individuals.
This role supports the care team by maintaining record confidentiality, assisting with reporting, helping schedule medical appointments, and supporting quality improvement efforts.
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred: training in an accredited medical record program or at least one year of experience in an established medical record system.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of medical records information
- Completing forms for release of information and escalating questionable requests
- Filing and maintaining up-to-date medical records
- Preparing reports and correspondence
- Answering phones, relaying messages, and transferring calls
- Filing documentation from inside and outside the institution
- Scheduling patients for medical appointments as requested
- Assisting with periodic statistical reports and management information system requirements
- Participating in quality of care screen audits
