In keeping with the organization’s goal of improving the lives of the residents served, the Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for maintaining medical records in an organized manner while representing the company positively. The role works closely with nursing and supports administrative procedures related to resident records.
- Assist nursing in organizing, implementing, and performing administrative procedures.
- Organize and complete medical records of discharged residents.
- Review medical records and health information for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure resident charts are complete, properly signed, and entered into the computer system as required.
- Copy records and respond to record requests when a properly completed medical release is provided.
- Pull charts for audits and billing support.
- Contact discharged patients, families, and physicians to obtain follow-up or missing information.
- Protect the security and confidentiality of medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain infection control and standard precaution practices.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, families, visitors, peers, and supervisors.
- Report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to the supervisor.
- Respond promptly and courteously to call lights when working in resident care areas.
- Attend departmental meetings and in-services as directed.
- Use company-designated computer systems proficiently.
