Oversees and assists with compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records and forms for clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system.
- Demonstrates understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the release of patient health information.
- Oversees and assists with processing requests for patient medical record information and forms by ensuring receipt of proper signed patient authorization, extracting only material pertinent to the request, and obtaining physician approval or signature as necessary pursuant to department policy and Florida law.
- Responds to incoming calls and requests, primarily from provider offices and insurance companies.
- Retrieves information from the EHR to respond to requests for records and process reports and/or audits.
- Verifies completeness of each request using paper charts and electronic systems, including EpicCare EHR, Epic Patient Portal (MyChart), and athenaIDX.
- Verifies that only authorized information is released.
- Verifies reports have been signed by the appropriate provider prior to release.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required (GED may be equivalent).
- Two years of previous experience including filing, data entry, and audit processing in a medical records environment.

- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external customers.
- Proper grammar and accurate spelling skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise judgment and discretion.
- Basic knowledge of Windows-based computer applications.
