Key responsibilities include retrieving, filing, and organizing patient records in physical and electronic formats, processing information requests, verifying identities, assisting providers with access, and performing quality checks on scanned documents. The role also includes updating demographics, handling correspondence, responding to inquiries under privacy regulations, supporting birth registration functions, answering phones, assisting with HIM customer service, reviewing encounters for completeness, and responding to medical record document messages and pended dictations.
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year of experience working with medical records
- 1 year of medical office experience
Preferred
- 1 year of experience working with medical records in an acute care Health Information Management (HIM) environment
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
- Completion of a HIM equivalent study course
- Cerner experience
