Medical Records Reviewer

The Medical Records Reviewer supports the Medical Records department by ensuring medical records are accurately documented, securely stored, and accessible in compliance with healthcare regulations and internal policies.

Key duties include:

  • Scanning, uploading, organizing, and auditing paper and electronic records in the EMR
  • Reviewing documents for completeness, accuracy, and proper categorization before upload
  • Processing medical record requests and coordinating with external facilities
  • Preparing and releasing records to nursing home facilities
  • Tracking hospitalization, emergency room, and visitor medical record data
  • Maintaining logs, labels, retention files, and documentation backups
  • Assisting with training, cross-coverage, clerical tasks, and special projects
Requirements & Qualifications

The position requires:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical field technical or trade school certification preferred
  • 2 years of experience in the medical field preferred
  • Experience with electronic health records, scanning procedures, and HIPAA/CMS/TMHP requirements preferred

Preferred skills and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, EMR systems, and medical records privacy/disclosure standards
  • Strong medical terminology and clinical documentation knowledge
  • Accurate data entry and typing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team
