The primary purpose of this position is to maintain resident medical records and health information systems in accordance with current federal and state guidelines and the facility's privacy policies and procedures.
The role supports medical records administration, filing, indexing, chart assembly, record retrieval, information release tracking, and related clerical functions within the facility.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
- Ability to use dictation equipment.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, coding, indexing, and related concepts preferred but not required.
- On-the-job training provided in medical record and health information system procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and data retrieval, input, and output functions.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to read technical procedures.
- Ability to apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to make independent decisions, work well with others, and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
Physical and Work Expectations
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift up to 25 pounds and assist with evacuation of residents if necessary.
- Must be able to work in office and facility environments with frequent interruptions, occasional call-back, and exposure to infectious waste and hazardous conditions.
