This role is responsible for processing release of information requests in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy, customer service, privacy protection, and compliance with request authorization, company policy, HIPAA regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
Key responsibilities include retrieving and returning medical charts, scanning and transmitting medical records, date stamping requests, validating authorizations, performing quality checks, handling incoming requests by mail, phone, and fax, maintaining equipment and work area, and maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards when working with privileged patient information.
High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred qualifications and skills:
- At least 2 years of prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to type 50 words per minute
- Ability to use fax, copier, and scanning equipment
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly
- Self-motivated team player with proven customer satisfaction skills
- Ability to multitask
