We are seeking a Medical Records Coordinator for our Blue Valley facility to support the accurate management of resident health information. This role helps ensure medical records are complete, current, confidential, and compliant with federal and state regulations, HIPAA, and company policies.
The position also supports diagnostic coding for appropriate billing and helps reduce accounts receivable while improving cash flow.
Shift: Day
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain the diagnosis list/sheet in the electronic system and perform ICD coding as trained, in consultation with clinical leaders.
- Create medical records for all new admissions.
- Organize open paper and electronic records, including filing, thinning, tracking signatures, and monitoring documentation quality.
- Audit medical records during admission, throughout the stay, and at discharge for compliance with documentation and timeliness requirements.
- Maintain forms and office supply inventory as directed.
- Coordinate with pharmacy regarding MARs/TARs and related forms where applicable.
- Process medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Coordinate record release with risk management and retrieve, copy, and forward authorized information.
- Maintain closed records according to company procedures.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and correspondence related to medical records as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active LPN or RN license in the state of Kansas.
- ICD coding experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly.
- Strong communication skills for working with patients, families, staff, and external requestors.
- Basic computer skills required.
