Responsible for release of information (ROI), indexing, and/or birth registry (BR) support.
In ROI, reviews and processes information requests from patients, physicians, medical professionals, insurance companies, and others while providing strong customer service.
In indexing, accurately files protected health information into the electronic medical record.
In birth registry work, assists mothers in completing required documentation for the Arizona Department of Vital Records and supports birth certificate-related documentation.
Additional duties include maintaining confidentiality of medical records, using approved systems to track releases, scanning and routing documents, filing and retrieving patient charts, monitoring work queues, and assisting office staff with records requests and indexing practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of related records management experience
- No licensure or certification required
- EBRS certification required within 1 month for birth certificate role
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other applicable state and federal regulations
- Knowledge of records management policies and procedures
- Knowledge of filing principles alphabetically and numerically
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience using Epic Release and work queues
- Ability to review and research electronic records to obtain missing information
- Ability to maintain files and tasks to meet deadlines and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with office equipment and computer systems, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to read and interpret documents, complete routine reports, communicate effectively, and work independently
