Under minimal supervision, releases and copies medical records for outside agencies, patients, and courts in accordance with state and federal laws governing the legal release of health information.
This role audits medical records for completeness and legibility, prepares charts for copying and clinical lines, files loose paperwork, maintains chart integrity, and handles release-of-information requests. It also provides administrative support to the Denver Sheriff Health Services Unit and serves patients, outside providers, and other requestors through telephone, walk-in, fax, mail, and other request methods.
The position is based in a correctional care environment, supporting either the Downtown Detention Center or the Denver County Jail, where heightened security, environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive decision-making are essential.
High school diploma or GED required.
1-3 years of clerical experience required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the minimum experience requirement.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Ability to interact well with customers
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to multitask
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of terminal-digit filing systems
- Knowledge of release of information processes
- Understanding of state and federal regulations, HIPAA, Denver Sheriff Department policies, NCCHC, and ACA privacy requirements
- Experience with medical record imaging, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Excel
