The Outpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist Nurse provides clinically based reviews of outpatient medical records to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant documentation of each patient encounter.
This role supports correct coding, reimbursement, and quality initiatives by helping clinicians document all conditions, treatments, and interventions in a way that accurately reflects severity of illness, risk adjustment, and quality of care.
The position works closely with leadership, subject matter experts, and operational stakeholders to remain compliant with state and federal regulatory codes and guidelines.
The department also supports related revenue cycle functions including inpatient and outpatient CDI, infusion prior authorizations, medical audit, and Medicaid screening.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current RN or LPN licensure in the State of Alabama required
- Registered Nurse (RN) preferred
- At least 5 years of nursing experience required
- 3 of the 5 years must be in an acute or intensive care setting
- Pediatric experience preferred; CDI experience may be accepted in lieu of pediatric experience
Certifications and Education
- CCDS and/or coding certification such as CPC highly desired, or willingness to complete after employment
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing required
Equivalent Qualifications
- Registered Nurse AL Single State license or equivalent multi-state license options accepted
- 5 years of staff-level experience in acute nursing may satisfy experience requirements
- Certified Coding Specialist or Certified Coding Associate listed as nonessential
