Provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate the utilization and documentation of acute care services.
The role focuses on improving physician documentation so that patient severity of illness and risk of mortality are accurately reflected. Reviews may be driven by internal needs as well as external payer or regulatory requirements and support quality reporting and compliant reimbursement for acute care services.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Nursing or International Medical Graduate
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting
- Critical care, medical/surgical, or Emergency Department nursing preferred
- Computer proficiency with word processing, databases, and spreadsheets
- Familiarity with basic office equipment
- Current RN license in the state of residence/practice, if applicable
- Strong knowledge of disease processes and related procedures
- Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria, Medicare reimbursement, and coding systems preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment
