Release of Information Specialist role within the Health Information Management Administration Call Center at Covenant Health.

This position supports telephone and facsimile requests for medical records across multiple Covenant Health facilities. The specialist is responsible for assisting callers with release of information related to continuity of care and health information inquiries, while protecting medical records from improper release and maintaining compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, state and federal laws, and organizational policies.

The role involves handling high-volume, unpredictable call activity, processing requests accurately, and coordinating with ROI staff as needed. Limited home access is available for some specialists, and employees with home connectivity may be expected to work during emergency situations.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Associate’s degree in a directly related field preferred

Experience with HIPAA and HITECH preferred

Computer proficiency required

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

Good decision-making skills and ability to work independently

Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred but not required
