Responsible for providing coordination and supervision of the Health Information department in accordance with standard policies and procedures and state and federal guidelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing health records and rooms for new admissions according to policy and procedure
- Maintaining resident admission/discharge registers and accurate census records
- Reviewing nursing, social services, activities, dietary, and rehab documentation for completeness and timeliness
- Performing regular audits and scanning to maintain quality assurance standards
- Working with physicians to obtain signed discharge summaries and other required information
- Assembling closed records until the full electronic record is obtained
- Maintaining periodic statistical reports and handling confidential resident information
- Copying and releasing health record information according to policy and procedure
- Updating health record information regularly
- Making appointments and arranging transportation for residents when needed
- Completing lab requisitions, coordinating lab draws, and forwarding results to nursing staff
- Maintaining medical office supplies and equipment
- Assisting physicians with documentation requirements during resident visits
- Serving as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee
- Ensuring compliance with Covenant Retirement Communities, state, and federal regulations related to health record functions
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience required
- Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and understand medical documentation
- Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA laws
