The Clinical Quality Documentation Specialist I supports improvement in the completeness and accuracy of quality data and outcomes through collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, interdisciplinary quality committees, multidisciplinary teams, and clinical coders.
This role applies clinical expertise, nursing standards, current research, best practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve clinical documentation, quality measures, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives. The position acts as a change agent to help implement documentation improvements and ensure accurate representation of patient acuity, diagnoses, comorbidities, and treatment in the medical record.
Key responsibilities include daily rounding with providers, medical record review, data collection, analysis of quality and patient safety trends, presentation of updates to leadership and committees, and partnership with the Clinical Coding Team to support accurate reporting.
Required
- Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing
- Minimum 2 years of bedside nursing experience and participation in clinical quality, patient safety, or related initiatives
- Demonstrated effective change management skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict management, diplomacy, and negotiation skills
- Proven leadership to support positive clinical quality outcomes
- Analytical skills to collect, analyze, and interpret clinical data independently
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn related applications
Preferred
- Master’s degree
- 5 years of experience in medical/surgical, critical care, intensive care, or emergency care
