The Health Record Technician II (Specialist) supports the Health Information Management Division at Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero. This role performs complex health record and coding duties with increasing responsibility and sound decision-making.
Responsibilities include:
- Evaluating technical abstracting and coding issues
- Supporting patient access to medical records
- Photocopying requested records
- Performing structured concurrent and quantitative audits within the secured treatment area
- Reviewing documentation, maintaining charts, thinning records, and filing as needed
- Analyzing requests for patient information and providing appropriate responses
- Reviewing medical records for deficiencies after discharge or court appearances
- Communicating incomplete record findings to responsible staff
- Assigning ICD-10 codes according to ICD-10-CM guidelines
- Abstracting data from a variety of sources
This position is located at DSH - Atascadero in San Luis Obispo County and is an in-office, permanent full-time role.
