NYC Health + Hospitals / Correctional Health Services is seeking a Medical Records Coordinator to support medical records operations across jail-based and administrative settings. This role coordinates requests for medical records, supports records management workflows, and assists with administrative projects for the Medical Records team.
The position involves handling medical record requests from courts, regulatory agencies, clinical teams, and outside healthcare facilities, as well as maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the medical records database. The coordinator also supports quality assurance efforts, runs reports across multiple systems, performs redactions, and helps ensure timely and compliant records processing.
Minimum qualifications
- Four-year high school diploma or educational equivalent
- Four years of satisfactory full-time experience providing direct counseling, guidance, crisis-intervention, or information and referral services for inmates of a correctional facility, substance abusers, or a similar client population
- Or equivalent education and experience, with 30 semester credits from an accredited college considered equal to one year of required experience
- All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of qualifying experience
Preferred qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Strong knowledge of Excel and Word
- Good knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
- Experience with medical records, scanning, redaction, and database management
