Assists with patients’ clinical records, including coding, auditing, and record management in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company standards.
Performs ongoing review and auditing of clinical records to ensure documentation and performance compliance, maintains record filing systems, and supports the use of ICD-10-CM coding and LTC payment systems, including Medicare.
Works within a post-acute care environment and supports interdisciplinary communication, patient safety, confidentiality, and compliance requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior medical records experience preferred
Knowledge and skills
- Knowledge of state and federal legal requirements related to documentation, confidentiality, and health information
- Familiarity with HIPAA requirements
- Ability to use complex computer software systems effectively
- Functional knowledge in the field of practice
- Ability to make independent decisions when appropriate
- Understanding of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing post-acute care facility functions
- Ability to interpret and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures
- Strong communication skills with physicians, nursing staff, and allied health personnel
- Ability to work productively on an interdisciplinary team
- Good judgment, reasoning skills, and dependable attendance
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
