The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist II supports accurate identification of diagnoses, conditions, and procedures that reflect the patient's hospital stay and care provided, including Severity of Illness (SOI) and Risk of Mortality (ROM) during inpatient hospitalization.
The role initiates concurrent queries to providers based on medical record documentation to improve the accuracy, integrity, and quality of patient data and to promote complete and precise physician documentation. This position works under the direction of the Manager of CDI and collaborates with coding staff, clinicians, medical staff, and physician advisors to improve documentation quality and support appropriate reimbursement.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
Licensure and Certification
- RN license
- Clinical Documentation Specialist certification through ACDIS or AHIMA
Experience
- 2-5 years of medical/surgical nursing experience in an acute hospital setting
- Critical care and/or emergency nursing experience required
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficient query-writing skills for physicians
- Ability to accurately complete chart audits
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
- Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access
