Responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of patient health records to support coding, reimbursement, physician chart completion, and regulatory compliance.
Key duties include:
- Managing chart deficiency workflows and assisting providers with incomplete medical records
- Processing unbilled accounts to support coding, reimbursement, and revenue cycle operations
- Filing and maintaining health records within the EHR system
- Overseeing suspension processes for delinquent records in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements
- Monitoring delinquency statistics and generating reports for HIM leadership
- Performing mandated registry reporting, including tumor registry and EMPI reconciliation
- Maintaining medical records across multiple health information systems
- Supporting audits, operational reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensuring compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and facility policies
Requirements & Qualifications
- 0–1 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare clerical support
- Experience with document scanning, indexing, or electronic medical records systems preferred
- Strong understanding of medical record workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of chart deficiency processes, provider suspension workflows, and unbilled management procedures
- Proficiency with EHR systems, document management, and health information technology platforms
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret HIM reports and deficiency tracking data
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
- RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
