Health Information Management Technician

Grandview Medical Center - Birmingham, AL

Responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of patient health records to support coding, reimbursement, physician chart completion, and regulatory compliance.

Key duties include:

  • Managing chart deficiency workflows and assisting providers with incomplete medical records
  • Processing unbilled accounts to support coding, reimbursement, and revenue cycle operations
  • Filing and maintaining health records within the EHR system
  • Overseeing suspension processes for delinquent records in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements
  • Monitoring delinquency statistics and generating reports for HIM leadership
  • Performing mandated registry reporting, including tumor registry and EMPI reconciliation
  • Maintaining medical records across multiple health information systems
  • Supporting audits, operational reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensuring compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and facility policies
Requirements & Qualifications
  • 0–1 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare clerical support
  • Experience with document scanning, indexing, or electronic medical records systems preferred
  • Strong understanding of medical record workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of chart deficiency processes, provider suspension workflows, and unbilled management procedures
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, document management, and health information technology platforms
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret HIM reports and deficiency tracking data
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
