Health Support Specialist

State of Florida

Full-time Career Service position with the Florida Department of Health in Lee County supporting the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing administrative support for WIC clinic operations
  • Interviewing participants for demographics, income eligibility, and immunizations
  • Issuing benefits, special formula, and EBT cards
  • Operating FL-WiSE terminals, scanners, signature pads, card readers, and pin pads
  • Collecting and recording medical data such as height/length, weight, and hemoglobin levels
  • Transcribing medical data into the FL-WiSE system
  • Reviewing immunization records and documenting results
  • Completing nutrition questionnaires and intake history documentation
  • Scheduling appointments and answering client/public phone inquiries
  • Supporting breastfeeding education and referrals
  • Participating in nutrition education and outreach activities
  • Traveling to WIC sites as needed
Requirements & Qualifications

Required knowledge and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Strong spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills
  • Experience performing anthropometrics
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment
  • Ability to follow office procedures and maintain filing systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Valid driver's license and access to a motor vehicle
  • Ability to work in English; bilingual skills may be used for interpreter duties
