Job Summary
Full-time Career Service Health Support Specialist position with the Florida Department of Health in Lee County, supporting the WIC program.
Key Duties
- Provide administrative support to DOH-Lee Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.
- Operate FL-WiSE terminals, scanners, signature pads, card readers, and pin pads.
- Interview participants for demographics, income eligibility, and immunizations.
- Issue benefits, special formula, and EBT cards.
- Instruct participants on redemption procedures, program rules, and vendor or participant concerns.
- Maintain security, inventory, storage, issuance logs, and supply orders.
- Complete precertification screens for walk-in WIC appointment requests.
- Collect and record client medical data including height, weight, and hemoglobin levels.
- Transcribe medical data into the FL-WiSE system.
- Review immunization records and document information in the system.
- Calibrate anthropometric equipment when needed.
- Maintain bio-hazardous materials according to policy.
- Document nutrition questionnaire responses.
- Schedule appointments, answer phones, and provide public information about WIC services and community resources.
- Support breastfeeding education and referrals.
- Participate in outreach and other assigned duties.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and access to a motor vehicle.
- Experience operating general office equipment.
- Experience operating a personal computer.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
- Strong spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills.
- Knowledge and experience performing anthropometrics.
- Skill in operating a personal computer and general office equipment.
- Ability to follow procedures, organize filing systems, and handle telephone calls professionally.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
