Maintain prisoner health records in accordance with federal and state statutes, departmental policies, and procedures. Assist with documenting diagnosis codes on prisoner records, maintain health care databases, perform continuous quality improvement reporting, coordinate distribution of health record information, process release-of-information requests, and prepare and receive hard copy health records for transfer. Train new health care employees on the electronic medical record system and coordinate and track specialty health care appointments. This position works within the secure perimeter of correctional facilities.
Education
- Associate's degree in health information or medical record technology.
Experience
- Medical Record Examiner 8: No specific type or amount of experience required.
- Medical Record Examiner 9: One year of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 8.
- Medical Record Examiner E10: Two years of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner, including one year equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 9.
Additional Qualifications
- Certification from AHIMA as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
- Must meet state employment eligibility requirements; applicants with certain felony or misdemeanor convictions may be ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections.
