Health Information Management Technician 2

NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities

The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is seeking a Health Information Management Technician II to work in the Health Information Management Department at Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake, New York.

This role supports the Health Information Management Administrator and helps provide coverage for department supervision in their absence. The position includes assisting with staff assignments, medical record reviews, training, policy interpretation, problem solving, staff evaluation, medical records reporting, and compliance with medical records accreditation standards.

Key duties include managing information requests, maintaining and organizing paper and electronic records, supporting EHR tasks, retrieving historical documentation for clinical requests, preparing records for court hearings, completing special projects and audits, and traveling within New York State as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

Current AHIMA certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or current AHIMA certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with at least one year of full-time professional post-RHIT health information management experience.

For transfer eligibility, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer, or be eligible to transfer under Sections 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law.

Additional qualifications and considerations include the ability to perform records management duties, support supervision of staff, complete audits and special projects, and travel as needed throughout New York State.
