The Senior Release of Information (ROI) Specialist is responsible for processing requests for patient health information (PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws, including HIPAA, and organizational policies. This role ensures that only authorized individuals receive access to medical records, all releases are properly documented and tracked, and sensitive information is handled with accuracy, professionalism, and compliance. The position also requires strong customer service recovery skills and clear communication with internal and external stakeholders, including corporate compliance, physicians, legal, and risk management teams.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree in HIM or a related field preferred
- 4-6 years of experience in Health Information Management (HIM), Release of Information, or a related work environment required
- Proficiency with electronic health records, specifically EPIC and OnBase
- Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Advanced knowledge of computer software and office equipment, including Word, Excel, Nitro Pro, Adobe, fax machines, scanners, and copiers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service and recovery skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
- In-depth understanding of HIPAA, state-specific privacy laws, and federal regulations
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in fast-paced and stressful environments
- Ability to manage high volumes of requests and multitask effectively
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to make decisions independently and escalate when necessary
