Kindred Hospital Melbourne and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 58-bed hospital providing extended recovery care in Melbourne, Florida. The facility includes long-term acute care and rehabilitation services, with 24-hour clinical care seven days a week.
The HIM Technician supports health information management operations by maintaining the integrity of medical records through abstracting, analysis, concurrent review, filing, storage, and retrieval. The role also supports HIPAA compliance, release of information, and accurate handling of patient medical records.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, analyze, abstract, scan, and maintain medical records to ensure complete and verifiable documentation
- Coordinate with hospital staff, physicians, and administration to ensure records are completed timely and accurately
- Respond to requests for protected health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
- Use dictation and transcription systems effectively
- Maintain record indexes, storage, and retrieval systems
- Order department supplies as needed
- Attend required in-services and staff meetings
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards
- Follow all hospital and departmental safety and security policies
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred, or enrollment in a college/university HIM program accepted
- RHIT certification through AHIMA preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of HIM experience preferred
- Strong medical data abstracting skills
- Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Good attendance and reliability
