Senior Medical Coding Subject Matter Expert

Active credential in good standing from one of the following:

• AAPC Certified Coding Specialist for Physician-based coding (CCS-P)
• AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
• AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
• AHIMA Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with coding specialization

Additional qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years of professional medical coding experience
• At least 5 years of experience in a Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, or large federal healthcare environment
• Working knowledge of DoD Instruction 6040.42 and DHA coding guidance
• Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS
• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration, Nursing, or related field, or equivalent experience
• Active CAC eligibility or ability to obtain Tier 2 suitability
• U.S. citizenship required
• Ability to commute daily to Falls Church, Virginia

Preferred experience includes:

• Military Health System coding experience
• Experience with MHS GENESIS, CHCS, or other legacy DoD EHRs
• Auditing experience under the MHS Coding Compliance Plan or similar framework
• Additional coding or CDI credentials such as CDIP or CCDS
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
• Prior support for DHA Headquarters or National Capital Region military facilities
