The Denial Management Specialist gathers, interprets, and reviews data to perform root cause analysis and implement process improvements that reduce denials and write-offs to optimize accounts receivable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating revenue cycle reports
- Collecting, researching, and analyzing business and operational data
- Monitoring and trending system denials
- Working with operational and other departments to reduce denial dollars and rework
- Working denials through to resolution
- Collaborating with other revenue cycle teams to educate on denial trends
- Identifying and monitoring process improvement efforts within the revenue cycle
- Establishing definitions and criteria for reporting avoidable denials
- Attending workshops and seminars to maintain knowledge and capability related to the position
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements & Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree or 4 years of equivalent experience
- 5+ years of related work experience preferred
- Experience working in the medical industry preferred
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
- Intermediate to expert computer proficiency
- Thorough understanding of the billing process
- Basic understanding of coding
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
