This role is responsible for ensuring coding is accurate and properly supported by clinical documentation within the health record. The position involves reviewing medical records, applying ICD-10 diagnosis codes, and identifying conditions that map to HCCs.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Reviewing medical records and documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes
- Following state and federal regulations, internal policies, and coding guidelines
- Working on projects that may include contacting providers
- Operating with limited oversight and broad guidelines
- Participating in special projects in addition to daily duties
- Working mandatory overtime when needed to support business needs
Training is conducted in a virtual remote classroom for the first 3 weeks. After training, the role follows a Monday through Friday schedule within the employee's own time zone.
- One of the following certifications is required: CPC, CPC-A, COC, CIC, CRC, CCA, CCS, or CCS-P
- Experience in a goal-oriented, production- and quality-driven environment
- Must maintain annual continuing education requirements and remain in good standing with AAPC or AHIMA
- Ability to attend 3 weeks of virtual classroom training, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Eastern Time
- Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with mandatory overtime as needed
- Must have a confidential workspace free from distractions
- Proficiency with relevant technology and multiple software applications
- Preferred: Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency
- Preferred: Risk adjustment experience
- Preferred: HCC coding experience
