Risk Adjustment Coder

The Risk Adjustment Coder conducts quality assurance coding of medical records and ICD-10 diagnosis codes submitted to CMS and other government agencies. This role ensures coding accuracy and appropriate support within the health record through review of clinical documentation and application of ICD-10 diagnosis codes.

Key duties include reviewing medical records to identify conditions that map to HCCs, following state and federal regulations, working on projects that may involve provider outreach, and participating in special projects in addition to daily responsibilities. The position requires independent judgment, strong communication skills, and proficiency with technology and multiple software applications.

Training is conducted virtually for the first 3 weeks on a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Eastern Time. After training, the role works 40 hours per week Monday through Friday within the employee's own time zone, with occasional overtime as needed. This is a remote work-from-home position with occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Active certification from AAPC or AHIMA, such as CPC, CPC-A, COC, CIC, CRC, CCA, CCS, or CCS-P
  • Experience in a goal-oriented, production- and quality-driven environment
  • Ability to maintain annual continuing education requirements and remain in good standing with the credentialing body
  • Ability to attend 3 weeks of virtual classroom training, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Eastern Time
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, with mandatory overtime as needed
