Modifier QQ can be used when the furnishing professional is aware of the result of the ordering professional’s consultation. Below are the description and billing guidelines for this modifier.
Description Of Modifier QQ
Modifier QQ is defined by the CPT manual as: “The ordering professional consulted a qualified clinical decision support mechanism for this service and the related data was provided to the furnishing professional.”
When To Use Modifier QQ
Modifier QQ can be used when the furnishing professional is aware of the result of the ordering professional’s consultation with a CDSM for that patient.
The QQ modifier can be reported on the same claim line as the CPT code for an advanced diagnostic imaging service furnished in an applicable setting and paid for under an applicable payment system.
Reported on both the facility and professional claim (hospital, physician’s office, or ambulatory surgical center)
Modifier QQ should not be used on procedure codes other than those identified by CMS.
