CPT Codes For Paracentesis
Abdominal parcentesis is a procedure that is performed in the abdomen cavity with the aim to remove abnormal fluid. There are currently three CPT codes that can be used to report this procedure.
49082 CPT Code
Abdominal paracentesis (diagnostic or therapeutic); without imaging guidance.
49083 CPT Code
Abdominal paracentesis (diagnostic or therapeutic); with imaging guidance.
49084 CPT Code
Peritoneal lavage, including imaging guidance, when performed.
Report CPT 49084 only for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes to view if there is any intra abdominal bleeding.
