Responsible for all facets of medical billing coding audits for physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Supports Billing Specialists, Coders, and Patient Accounts Specialists in the ongoing operations of the Billing Department to help achieve patient care and financial goals.
Provides cross-coverage when needed to ensure efficient practice operations and maximum patient satisfaction.
Key responsibilities include maintaining credentialing files, reviewing physician coding for compliance with Medicare guidelines, auditing charting and charge capture, updating coding sets in Athena, entering and balancing charges, posting payments and adjustments, submitting claims, processing refunds, and supporting billing and patient account functions as needed.
The role also requires adherence to OSHA, HIPAA, and Medicare compliance policies and maintaining an organized, efficient, and professional work environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in a surgical subspecialty private practice setting
- CPC certification required
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical processes, procedures, lab and radiology tests, and medications preferred
- Experience with Windows-based computer systems, spreadsheets, word processing software, and electronic medical record systems
- Ability to read and interpret procedure manuals, safety rules, and operating instructions
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, and physicians
- Strong math, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle patients in a pleasant, efficient, and professional manner
