BayCare is seeking an Advanced Inpatient Coding Specialist for a full-time remote role. This position performs complex inpatient coding for multi-day, multi-specialty encounters, assigning diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
The role supports accurate MSDRG assignment, physician query creation, bill hold monitoring, and coordination with Clinical Documentation and Quality teams. It also involves mentoring and training other coding staff and students.
Requirements & Qualifications
Certifications and licensures
- Required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Preferred: RHIT (Health Information) in addition to CCS
Education
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: Associate degree in Health Information Technology
Experience
- Required: 5 years of acute care experience
- Required: 3 years of inpatient coding experience
Skills and knowledge
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology
- Experience with complex inpatient documentation review
- Ability to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes accurately
- Ability to formulate physician queries and monitor bill hold reports
