Join Nemours Children's Health as an Inpatient Coder supporting accurate inpatient and outpatient coding across multiple specialties.
This role involves reviewing hospital documentation to assign principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, social determinant codes, and related charges in alignment with AHA guidelines, CPT guidelines, payer-specific rules, and ICD-10-CM coding standards.
The position is remote, with residency required in specific U.S. states.
Requirements & Qualifications
Responsibilities
- Review medical record documentation to accurately assign codes for concurrent and discharged accounts across multiple specialties.
- Maintain monthly production and quality standards.
- Apply code sequencing knowledge for grouper-related payers and support charge capture assessment.
- Use M.E.A.T. criteria and ICD-10-CM data to capture diagnoses.
- Identify missing charges, including anesthesia and surgery-related gaps.
- Apply coding and modifier knowledge to reduce take-backs and support payer-specific requirements.
- Maintain strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, modifier application, and coding guidelines.
- Support clinical documentation improvement through query interaction.
- Use hospital information systems to retrieve and review encounter and patient data.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree required.
- Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology required.
- One of the following certifications required: CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or COC.
