Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, is seeking a coder to provide accurate and timely coding support for assigned IPM markets and billing entities.
The role uses clinical documentation across multiple electronic health record systems to apply CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding standards, support charge capture, and help ensure proper charge posting in the practice management system. The coder also works closely with providers and market staff to reduce coding delays, minimize lag days, and support clean claims and revenue integrity.
This is a remote opportunity, and the successful candidate must live in Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, Texas, or Nevada.
Key responsibilities
- Provide accurate and timely coding services using clinical documentation in multiple EHR systems
- Reconcile charges to ensure all services are captured
- Work with charge capture and billing operations to ensure accurate charge posting
- Communicate with providers and market staff to ensure documentation is completed and signed
- Educate providers on documentation requirements and coding capture opportunities
- Maintain knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10, government, managed care, third-party billing guidelines, AMA, AAP, and CMS policies
- Escalate coding trends that may affect productivity, quality, revenue, or claim denials
- Participate in team meetings and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical school, two years of college, or associate degree preferred
Experience and certifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in healthcare professional billing, health insurance, coding, or equivalent operations
- Multi-specialty experience required
- PCP or primary care provider experience required
- Internal medicine experience required
- Denial management experience required
- AAPC CPC certification required
- Strong knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10, billing guidelines, and coding policies
- Understanding of the revenue cycle preferred
- Excellent organization, research, problem-solving, and attention to detail
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
- Experience with billing software such as Cerner, Epic, or IDX highly desirable
